The 10 best universities in the world, according to the 2017-2018 ranking
The University of Oxford remains the best university in the world.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continues to lead the best universities in the world, followed by Stanford (California) and Harvard, according to the new Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) global rating released on Wednesday in the US.
MIT, based in Cambridge, just outside of Boston, has led this ranking for six consecutive years, which is based on six assessment metrics and includes academic reputation, prestige among employers, and references in academic research articles.
American predominance. Stanford, in Palo Alto, in the Californian Silicon Valley is the second, after snatching the post in the last two years to Harvard, also outside of Boston. Next, it is located also the California American Institute of Technology (Caltech), in Pasadena; and in the fifth and sixth place appear the first European, the British Cambridge and Oxford, respectively.
The rest of the first places are distributed by the USA and the United Kingdom, which has the University College of London, in the seventh position, and the Imperial College also in London, in the eighth. The ninth is for the University of Chicago, and the first European is in the tenth place for the ZTH Zurich (Switzerland).
Asia and Europe. Two universities in Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore, are the first Asian universities, and they are ranked 11th and 15th, each one.
The first Spanish universities in this classification do not appear until position 156, where the University of Barcelona is located; and further back, the Autonomous University of Madrid, in 187; and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in 195. The list of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) analyzes 959 universities around the world, and is published annually.
Latin American The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) of Argentina, is the best located in the continent in the 75th position. It is followed by the University of Sao Paulo (121), the Catholic University of Chile (137), the State University of Campinas of Brazil ( 182) and the Technological Institute of Monterrey (199).
Among the Peruvian women, the Catholic University is ranked 431 and 21 in the Latin American ranking. Further back is the National University of San Marcos, ranked 801 and 70 on the continent.
